It's Tool Time! What
would a Man's Garden be without some tools? Pretty girly, that's what.
From building a protective fence, to shoveling compost, the tools are
the foundation to every Man's Garden.
Along with decisions about which vegetables to plant, homeowners and
beginning gardeners also have to decide how to outfit the tool shed.
The following items is a suggested arsenal for creating and maintaining
your Man's Garden.
The LONG-HANDLED ROUND POINT SHOVEL is used for chores that go
from turning ground to scooping dirt. It is also used to make planting
holes, for filling holes, and for removing dirt loosened with another
tool. The GARDEN SPADE is a efficient slicing tool to make holes
for planting shrubs and trees. It is also ideal for edging beds and
cutting through weeds and stubborn shrub roots. The garden hoe is used
for chopping weeds so they don't grow back, and for spreading soil in
the garden. In addition, you can use a GARDEN HOE to make furrows
for seed planting. Probably one of the most used small tools is the
TROWEL, which is ideal for digging small holes for planting and
transplanting vegetables and other small plants. The CULTIVATOR
is used for weeding and obviously cultivating the soil. It weeds faster
than a trowel, but is less precise, so you must be careful not to damage
important plants. The LAWN RAKE is to clear debris from lawns
and other large open ares.
A WHEELBARROW is a pretty handy tool to most. Great for carrying
supplies, manure or for mixing soil, it's practical in any yard. GRASS
SHEARS are handy for trimming grass in areas that a lawn mower and
even a weed whacker misses, such as under trees and at the lawns edge.
HEDGE SHEARS are similar to grass shears, only longer. This tool
is useful for trimming shrubs and hedges. The HAND PRUNERS are
ideal for cutting off dead and damaged branches from shrubs and small
trees. A HOSE REEL CADDY keeps the hose from becoming tangled
and kinked to the point of ruin. Free standing or wall mounting, it
is something no Man's Garden should be without.
