Top-dressing
your lawn
What you need:
- Fertilizer spreader
- Square headed
shovel
- Rake
- Top dressing
mix
Occasionally applying
a thin layer of top-dressing to your lawn keeps it looking its best. This
is especially useful after aerating your lawn because the top-dressing
mix fills in the holes that are left in the process. ItŐs best to spread
top-dressing when your lawn is dry. A mix of 2 parts sand, 1 part sieved
soil, 1 part compost, and 1 part blood meal works great. If you need to
cover a large area with the top-dressing mix, use a spreader. Cover your
lawn with no more than 1Ú4Ó of top-dressing at one time.
On smaller areas the
top-dressing mix can be spread using a shovel.
Once you are satisfied with the amount of top-dressing you have applied,
use the back of a rake to work in the mix. Then water your lawn to help
settle the mix. |
